Romantic Date Ideas At Home

We all love to go out for a night on the town with our significant others, but sometimes that isn’t an option. Whether it’s a pandemic keeping us all inside or terrible weather forcing us to stay home, there are loads of reasons why dating at home might be an option.

But what kind of thing can you do in the comfort of your own home? And how do you inject some romance into proceedings?

Bring The Restaurant To Your Kitchen

Not all of us are Michelin stared chefs, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t cook up a storm in your very own kitchen. From cookbooks to instructional YouTube videos, there are a million ways to learn how to create some truly exceptional meals right there at home.

In fact, there are some benefits to cooking at home that you can’t even get at restaurants. You get to set the menu, for a start, and you can cater easily to any dietary requirements without having to have any awkward conversations with waiters or chefs. Eating out can be luxurious, but cooking at home offers a lot more freedom, allowing you to make things just how you and your partner like them.

What could be more romantic than that?

Movie Night

If cooking isn’t your thing, then perhaps bringing the cinema into your home is more your style. Now, of course, it’s unlikely that you have a full-sized cinema screen in your home, but these days many of us do have fairly sizable televisions on our walls.

Again, as nice as it is to see a new movie on the big silver screen, there are massive benefits to sitting at home, on your own sofa, and taking in a film with your date. The choice of film is yours, as are the snacks. You can cuddle and be as affectionate as you like without fear of being judged by the people sitting behind you, and you can laugh and scream and talk and generally make noise without disturbing anyone else (except for your partner, of course).

As for what film you should be watching on a date, that very much depends on what you and your partner feel like. Naturally, romantic films are always a good way to set an affectionate mood, but horror films are also famously good at bringing people closer through shared experience and shock. Or perhaps, if you’ve been dating for a while, a comedy or superhero film is more your idea of a good time. After all, as long as you have access to a streaming service or two, you are no longer limited by your DVD collection. Whatever kind of film you want, you’ll have plenty of choice.

Recreating An Important Moment

If you really want to go all out for a date at home, then this might be your best option. All couples have important moments in their shared history, from the day they met to their first kiss and maybe even their engagement or wedding. These moments are landmarks that will stand out and they are naturally imbued with romance by their very nature.

So, if you really want to go above and beyond for a date night at home, why not recreate one of those moments? Cook the same food that you shared on that very first date, or set up a picnic in your living room like when you proposed in that park. Whatever the moment, recreating it at home is not only going to be fun, but the effort and thought that will have gone into it will be incredibly romantic.

Important moments in relationships need to be treasured. They are what form the foundation of a partnership on which more and more memories and romantic moments can be built. Don’t be afraid to call back to the moments that make you smile and remind you of how special your partner and your relationship with them is. There is very little that can be as romantic as celebrating a shared memory together.

Games Night

This may not seem like the most romantic date idea, especially compared with the last one, but the fact is that games are not only a great way to have fun on a date, but they can also help to bring you and your partner closer too.

Much like films, especially emotionally charged ones, games offer the chance to create shared experiences with your date by artificially creating tension and adventure. Bonds between people are made and strengthened through emotional experiences, both good and bad. A games night full of positively tense moments and plenty of shouting and laughter will have a similar effect as the shock and shared fear of a horror film. These emotions are felt by both of you, together, and therefore they help to strengthen your bond and your understanding of each other.

Gaming is not a universal hobby, though. Not everyone likes to play games and, even if they do, the type of game that people like to play can vary wildly. As a result, this is the kind of date you’ll only want to go for if you know the person you’re with very well and are sure that they will enjoy whatever games you’ve got lined up. While a games night can be a fantastic date, if your partner isn’t into it and you still go a head, it could also be a truly awful evening for them, so make sure you know what you’re doing before committing to this particular idea.
